Rheumatoid arthritis: Can commonly cause pain in the small joints of the hands and fingers (inflammatory arthritis; synovitis). It can also cause "hard bumps" known as rheumatoid nodules. Other autoimmune as well as non-autoimmune conditions are possible. Consultation with an internist is recommended and will likely ensue with some blood work and referral to the rheumatologist.
