A member asked:

My father 87 had a viral infection 6 weeks ago.recently they checked is cbc and said he has pancytopenia what cause this ? he feels great no symptoms

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It could be MDS?: Pancytopenia in an elderly person means that his bone marrow is not making normal amounts of blood cells.....a condition called Myelodysplastic Syndrome(MDS). If you can send us the results of his recent CBC(complete blood count) showing his hemoglobin(Hgb), WBC,differential count and Platelet count, then we can give you further guidance. The fact that he feels well means his condition is not bad
