What what cause a previously unchanged lipoma that's been there for years to be red and irritated with a small about of pain now when touched?

Be seen: It would probably be wise to have it looked at. Although it is not real common, a previously benign lipoma can transform into a malignant liposarcoma at which time it would be expected to grow and cause pain. Infection is also a consideration. Best to be checked.
