Difficulty falling: asleep is often associated w/anxiety while waking up early and not returning to sleep is associated w/depression. Periodic waking is associated w/overall light sleep. Please see you doc who may order a sleep study. A psychologist can help w/stress management. Natural TX includes melatonin supplement w/professional guidance. Stop stimulants after noon&computers 1 hr pre-bed. Peace & health.

Get a sleep study: It wold be reasonable to do a sleep study to see if a clear cause for this can be found. For example you might have sleep apnea, a common problem that people are seldom aware of; either see a sleep medicine specialist or ask your regular doc to order a study. You and also try the amino acids 5-HTP, 200 mg and Glycine 3000 mg, both at bedtime, as both reduce awakenings and improve sleep quality.
