A member asked:

Hi! what does probable unopacified bowel in the presacral space mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Lacks contrast stuff: The material given to a patient for a bowel imaging study helps show up the entire bowel, such as on the images in an abdominal CT scan. Areas that did not get contrast material can look like they are missing the stuff, and are called unopacified bowel. However, things that prevent contrast from getting in, like a solid lump of poop, a polyp, or a tumor, can also look an area of missing contrast.
