A member asked:

What would happen if i took birth c. pills with my high bilirubin caused because i was a premature baby? i have no symptoms just high levels of it.

Probably nothing: BC pills just mimic hormones normally found in the body to trick your body into believing you are pregnant and prevent egg release. You likely have a bilirubin transport defect, not an issue from prematurity. Since the meds would have an effect similar to those that occur naturally ,it is unlikely to cause problems.Your doc could monitor your levels to be sure.
