See/talk to a doc: This may be patellofemoral syndrome, where altered biomechanics create abnormal tracking and "grinding" of the patella & its cartilage when moving in the groove of the end of the femur. Try a knee brace that supports the patella. Strengthening the quads & gluteus medius are important, + IT band stretching.
