The most usual cause: of painless popping in the knee is when the ligaments and tendons catch as they move over a bony spot in the joint and pop when they snap back into place. Sometimes the catching and popping results from actual cartilage/meniscal damage. "A large number of squats" could contribute to this. The numbness may point to damage from injury as well. See a Sports Med specialist/Orthopedist for evaluation.
