Probably: Avoidance of straining at your bowel movements, avoiding hard stools and constipation, occasional sitz baths with epson salts and perhaps occasional stool softeners can help avoid hemorrhoidal pain and swelling. Some hemorrhoids do require surgery, however. See your doctor for examination if persistent troubles.

Maybe: Avoid strenuous activity, heavy lifting, constipation, straining. Drink plenty of water daily and plenty of fiber. Hemorrhoids can potentially resolve with conservative therapy.

Anal skin tag: If you had an external hemorrhoid and it did not require surgery then you will eventually have a small skin tag at the site.

Difficult to say: External hemorrhoid can persist for a long time, and they are usually asymptomatic except for the fact it is there. Leave it alone if it doesnt bother otherwise a surgeon can excise it under local anesthesia.

A 29-year-old female asked:
Will external and prolapsed hemorrhoids go away in their own?

Address the causes: Hemorrhoids are caused by imbalances in diet and lifestyle, such as nutrient deficiencies and constipation, so unlikely to go away if the causes are not addressed. Eat a diet rich in organic vegetables, fruits, beans and whole grains. Avoid GMO foods. Supplement with bioflavonoids- I recommend Vein Factors by FutureBiotics, which has helped many of my patients. Yes and no: We all have normal hemorrhoidal tissue. It gets engorged with increase pressure over time causing symptoms (swelling like u have). With diet (high fiber and lots of water) the symptoms can go away and hemorrhoids may not be bothersome. The hemrrhoid tissue never goes away but symptoms can b relieved majority of times.

Swollen hemorrhoid: There is a difference in prolapsing hemorrhoids and swollen external hemorrhoids. Prolapsing internal hemorrhoids are covered by non-nerve bearing lining and can be banded in the office to prevent further prolapse. External hemorrhoids are covered by nerve bearing lining and are located outside. When they swell and cause pain, they are best treated initially with alternating ice pack and warm tub.
