Chronic irritation.: Your condition is known as onycholysis or nail loosening. Although there can be many reasons for it to occur, when it happens in only one nail it is probably due to localized irritation to the nail. There are other conditions that can cause nail loss. These include nail infections, manicures, nail treatments and applications, some medications and certain underlying medical conditions.
