A member asked:

How many years of drinking alcohol does it typically take before cirrhosis occurs. ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Variable: It depends on the amount of alcohol intake, other disorders, e,g. hepatitis C or chronic hepatitis B, iron deposition, nutritional status of the person and genetic susceptibility. Alcohol is a poison and it never did anybody any good. So rather than trying to titerate you intake, abstain entirely. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex.
