A member asked:

For the past two months, my stools have gone from dark brown to a sand color brown despite what i eat. lab work normal. should i be concerned?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It's a concern, but,: unless symptoms are bad, t's not an emergency. Bile produced by the liver is the primary pigment that makes stool dark brown. Absence of bile (this can be confirmed with a stool specimen) usually indicates a problem with the drainage system of the gall bladder, pancreas or liver. Blood tests may be normal. Further imaging may be needed to determine the cause. Best wishes. Dr. Anne.
