Veins: Veins in the extremities can be distended when they are dependent but normal veins will collapse(empty) when the arms or legs are elevated. If they don't empty there may be some pathology. Edema of the hands or ankles would also indicate a problem. Exposure to excessive heat from a hot shower may drop your blood pressure enough to cause transient weakness.
