Can constipation cause back pain?

Back PaIn/Constipati: Significant. Constipation can potentially cause back pain due to gas & spasm of the large intestine. High fiber diet, adequate liquid intake(6-8glasses of water) & possibly a fiber supplement such as Metamucil improve bowel movement function & decrease pain . Possibility of back injury should not be overlooked as an explanation.

Yes: Usually lower back in the lumbar region as a rectum full of hard stool pulls on the supporting ligaments of the rectum that are attached to the lower back. Of course many other things can cause back pain as well, so best to be evaluated by your doctor or a specialist.
