Most commonly: "Locking" is due to a significant "internal derangement" (Torn cartilage) and an MRI is usually the next step. "Popping" may be due to a piece of loose cartilage "hanging" from a tear and "catching"BETWEEN the tibia/femur where they "meet" IN SHORT YOu NEED TO SEE AN ORTHOPEDIST. Hope this helps! Dr Z
