A member asked:

Would an endoscopic ultrasound show an acute pancreatitis flare up? or only damage/evidence of a chronic pancreatitis condition?

EUS for biopsy.: The EUS is used to find suspicious parts of the pancreas for biopsy, mainly to exclude pancreatic cancer. Acute pancreatitis is usually determined by symptoms & blood tests (amylase, lipase) but cannot distinguish if there is cancer under the inflammation. Repeated acute pancreatitis bouts lead to chronic pancreatitis, which is a risk factor (probably the main one) for pancreatic cancer. TTYD.
