See answer: The earlier traction alopecia (TA) is diagnosed the more likely it will be reversible by discontinuing the traction. Persistence beyond one year is more likely to be permanent. Treatment is to stop all traction. In early reversible TA the number of hair follicles are normal and some inflammation is often present. In permanent TA the follicles are reduced in number and no inflammation is present.
