IUD check: With Mirena (levonorgestrel) periods are usually very light. When a patient with Mirena (levonorgestrel) tells me there periods have suddenly gotten heavy I want to see them in the office to check the IUD location. Occasionally the uterus tries to expel it. This can cause heavy bleeding and lower abdominal pain.
