Commonly Nl Function: Intestinal motion continues 24/7 & is typically the first thing physicians listen for during an abdominal exam. The noise is a result of water (~7 liters secreted from the blood stream/24 hrs) being mixed with swallowed air & peristaltic mixing motion 24/7. Actually the stomach is largely under the rib cage-lower chest & most people refer to their abdomen (intestines) as their stomach.
