A member asked:

Should you induce allergic reaction for tryptase blood test? i read sample timing matters?

Dr. John Chiu answered

Timing matters: In anaphylaxis, the tryptase level should be obtained no more than 2 hrs after the reaction occurs. However anaphylaxis to food often does not cause elevated tryptase level. Why would you want to trigger an allergic action to get a positive result since not all anaphylaxis lead to elevated tryptase level?
