A member asked:

How does depakote cause tardive dyskinesia or prolonged qt? also how rare is pancreatitis and liver failure while taking said medication?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

TD/LQT & Depakote?: TD is commonly caused with use of some antipsychotics & metoclopramide. Liver toxicity and pancreatitis may occur with Depakote, risk factors for liver toxicity include young age, severe seizures, mitochondrial disorders usually early on in therapy. Close monitoring at the onset of therapy with early detection of symptoms of liver and pancreatic disease will improve the safe use of Depakote.
