Veins : Red vessels are arteries full of oxygen. Darker vessels are usually blue/purple veins. They are a different color due to their lack of oxygen. You can see them under your tongue because the mucosa layer covering them is very thin there. The tongue is a muscle, so pretty much anything regarding its natural size and shape is muscular in nature.
