Large cavity in tooth. dentist says i need pulp cap and filling. decay comes close to the nerve but not yet on the it. what is purpose of pulp cap?

Pulp cap: The purpose of a pulp cap is to make the tooth less likely to be sensitive to the new filling, and to make the nerve less likely to need Root Canal Therapy.
