IUD bleeding: Copper IUD may cause heavier, longer, or more uncomfortable menses menses, particularly in the first several cycles after insertion. A common side effect of levonorgestrel-releasing IUDs is a change in the bleeding pattern; which may include episodes of intermenstrual bleeding or prolonged menstrual bleeding. NSAIDs for a few days or combination oral contraceptives for a few months can be used.
