Sprain: A sprain and/ or contusion of the knee likely occurred. Applying ice on and off for 48 hours, resting and elevating the leg are first line treatments. Anti-inflammatory medications like Advil or Aleve, if you can take them, help reduce pain, swelling and inflammation. You can also take Tylenol (acetaminophen). See your physician or an orthopedic specialist if there is swelling or worsening pain. .
