Get X-ray if...: Sounds like a contusion to your thigh. ( bruise). If you are able to walk and weight bear on that side a fractured femur( thigh bone)extremely unlikely. Contusions to kneecap( prepatellar bursitis ) is very common w/ your mechanism of injury and can refer pain proximally . So are thigh contusions.
