Doctor should check: Viruses aren't stopped with the usual antibiotics. Mono is from the EBV virus, and can cause swollen glands (lymph nodes) and big tonsils. Strep throat can do the same thing, but strep throat needs antibiotics. If on an effective antibiotic, strep throat clears up quickly. Sometimes there is an abscess in a tonsil or the back of the throat. This all means that a trip to the doctor would be wise.
