Prolonged diarrhea: Diarrhea usually resolves within 5 days of onset of illness. A 6 mth old with persistent fever and mucoid diarrhea requires an evaluation as a bacterial illness is likely. The consult will also allow for a screen for other potential causes to include, recent use of antibiotics, recent history of travel/exposure to farm animals and other causes of inflammation of the bowels.
