No risk: First, the ointment won't help your herpes. Effective treatment requires pills by mouth; ask your doctor for a prescription. Second and most important, self infection of new body sites almost never occurs with herpes, except rarely in the first few weeks after catching it. After that, it almost never happens. It's good to wash after touching the genital area, but almost no risk if you forget.
