HPV: HPV vaccines do not confer protection against all high risk (cancer causing) HPV. You may have more protection depending on which vaccine (bivalent, quadrivalent or 9-valent) you had and if you had it prior to your first sexual intercourse (before sexual exposure to HPV). Abnormal pap are usually the result of HPV (persistent or transient) infection.
