Acute HIV.: There is such a thing as "acute retroviral syndrome" which occurs within the first week of infection, wherein you feel a bad flu-like illness which is accompanied by diffuse lymph node enlargement. This episode is not a guarantee, but it could happen. After that, HIV can lay dormant for several months to years.
