The tests for COPD include:: Basic metabolic panel, Complete blood count, CT of chest, Xray of chest, Electrocardiogram, Oxygen saturation, Pulmonary function test, Spirometry, Sputum gram stain and culture, Stress test, Troponin, Alpha 1 antitrypsin level, Arterial blood gas.

Pulmonary Function: The test to diagnose COPD is a pulmonary function test (PFT) that is done after a history and physical exam is suggestive of COPD. The PFT will confirm the diagnosis of COPD and indicate the severity of the disease. The PFT can also detect other lung diseases that share many symptoms of COPD that would require different treatment.

See below: COPD is diagnosed by pulmonary function tests. You can also get a good idea if a patient has COPD by looking at a chest xray or CT scan of the chest.
