Spirometry: This is the standard test to determine pulmonary obstructions. If you think this is your case, don;t hesitate being tested and if you smoke- stop now !

Spirometry: Usually the forced vital capacity (fvc) and a ratio of fev-1 /fvc (fev-1 = forced expiratory volume in one second) is obtained. If the fev-1/fvc ratio is low, a repeat study will be done after a bronchodilator treatment to see if the airway obstruction can be reversed. A short course of Prednisone may also prescribed to establish reversibility. At times a short course of Prednisone is needed.
