What symptoms are related to brain-eating amoeba (naegleria fowleri)?

Like viral enceph.: N fowleri is an amoeba which can survive high temperatures. Brain infection is rare - less than 10 cases per year are reported, although that may be reflective of underreporting. Most cases are in the southwest; half the cases are from TX and FL. The symptoms are that of an encephalitis - headache, confusion, seizures, coma over days. Death typically occurs w/in a week of symptom onset.
