Depends: A complete blood count (CBC) shows decreased red blood cells (anemia) over time if you are bleeding. Checking stool for microscopic blood, history of heavy menstrual periods in women help determine where you are bleeding. If the bleeding is faster such as from trauma, CT scans and ultrasound are typically used to identify bleeding and possibly source. Vital Signs (bp and pulse) are the 1st clue
