A member asked:

The doctor had a foley catheter inserted in me instead of wearing diapers. how long do i wear a catheter before it needs to be changed?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See below: In general, for most people a regularly scheduled interval of 4-6 weeks for changing an indwelling Foley or suprapubic urinary catheter is customary. That said, the timing of catheter changes should be individualized, based on patient characteristics and needs, rather than a regular schedule. The most common indications for catheter changes are obstruction, leakage, encrustation, and infection.
