Proper BP: The American Society of Hypertension recommends that BP readings be performed after a patient has sat quietly in a chair with the back supported and both feet flat on the floor for no less than 5 minutes (how often does THIS happen at your doctors office?). The patient should not have smoked--why the heck would they ANYWAY!?--for 15 to 20 minutes before the measurement.
