Onset of common essential hypertension at your age is somewhat unusual. Kidney factors are a possible cause. A goal of 130/80 or lower is optimal. Consulting a cardiologist would ensure proper workup, treatment and follow-up care.

A sudden onset of hypertension merits a search for a cause. One's internist or cardiologist could perform a careful history, physical exam and appropriate tests including blood tests to rule out kidney disease as well as rarer causes of hypertension such as an unusual tumor termed a pheochromocytoma, and a noninvasive vascular doppler test to search for a narrowing of the artery to each kidney.
