Either or.....: Whether applying ice or heat, you must first define the reason just why the joint is stiff. Ice and heat applications serve different principles, depending on the nature of the joint problem. For example, Is the stiffness due to recent trauma, infection, gout or chronic osteo arthritis with spurs impinging the joints motion.
