Keep it greased: Your best end result will occur if you keep it clean and protected. Any antibacterial ointment or petroleum jelly should work. Keep it greased until the area is less vulnerable, probably 3-5 days and look out for signs of infection. You may cover it to avoid transferring ointment to your clothes or to keep dirt out.
