Determine the cause: Your 8 year old with chronic itching must be very uncomfortable. The causes of chronic itching in the absence of skin eruption are variable and appropriate treatment can be determined after the cause is identified. Parasitic infections, use of some medications, weather, dry skin, use of hard water etc. are potential causes. A thorough history is needed for direction of care. Take care.
