Just a guess: but if you ever looked at your tonsils before you could have seen some little holes that had such stuff in them. It is the result of old infection. May smell bad. Not worrisome though.

Hello ms.Cannon, I've been having a sore throat and a cough lately. I thought it cleared up after a while but now when I wake up in the morning I hack up a hard brownish reddish yellow chunk ...(while doing so I feel like I'm choking) It's really big so
Coughing up yellow chunks, yellow and green nasal drainage, sore throat for about 2 to 3 weeks.
I have a constant gooey substance in the back of my throat. Sometimes it is clear/whitish, sometimes it is yellow or greenish. What is causing this?
