See a physician.: You should consult your physician and get x-ray done. Your symptoms are probably caused by an ankle sprain. Your physician can prescribe you some nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication and and or physical therapy if there's no fracture which will help to alleviate your pain and walk normally.

Possibly: If the pain runs around the back edge of the outside ankle bone, it is likely peroneal tendinitis. Other possibilities are painful ankle ligaments or cartilage damage in the ankle joint. If rest and Ibuprofen or Naproxen don't help, see your podiatrist.
