Middle ear injury: Middle ear injury may occur after head injury and blunt or penetrating trauma to the ear. If middle ear trauma is suspected, patient should undergo evaluation and management based on the patient's mechanism of injury and physical findings. Concerning findings on physical examination include otorrhea, rhinorrhea, hemotympanum, serous middle ear effusion, facial nerve weakness, hearing loss.
