Gender, no. Age, yes: There is no gender difference to nicotine addiction, but there is an age difference. Young people are more likely to become addicted than older. If a person starts smoking at age 21 there is about a 15% chance of becoming addicted. If starting before age 16 there is a 50% chance of addiciton. Over age 65, there is less than a 5% chance of addiciton. This is due to the plasticity of the brain.
