Unclear: There are at best limited studies showing a definitive effect with magnesium for back pain. Moreover, the consistency of the formulation is poor, and thus it isn't at all clear whether taking something today is equivalent to that purchased tomorrow. Please discuss taking pain medications with your doctor that have data supporting use in your particular issue.

Unlikely : There is perhaps some limited scientific evidence for muscle spasms (controversial) if that is the cause of your back pain but not a standard treatment. Suggest doctor consult. Can then test for magnesium deficiency if dr thinks likely and if low supplement plus if not likely will then be able to diagnose the cause of and help you manage your back pain. Good luck
