The knee is: an area of significant mobility and a sutured laceration there needs to be protected against the stress of flexion. Consequently some type of soft splinting for the first 7-10 days allows healing and increased strength of the subcutaneous tissues to develop. Caution should still taken for another 3 weeks to avoid dehiscence (wound opening).
