Are there diy solutions for hands' and fingers' (particularly thumbs) joint pain resulting from overuse of game controllers and phone texting?

Well, yes: No one ever likes this response, but it's the only honest and accurate response there is: cut back on the video games and texting. With any kind of over-use injury caused by a repetitive activity, it will not get better until you cut back on the activity, often for 3-6 weeks until healing occurs, then prevent a recurrence by knowing your limits and resting when symptoms start to re-develop.

Yes: Rest, making sure the environment is as ergonomic as possible, warm up before, ice down after.

Rest periods: You ABSOLUTELY need rest periods and varying positions as much as possible. As with ANY overuse syndrome, avoidance until symptoms abate and then resumption of activity with moderation to prevent recurrence. You are in control of this....don't let the gaming and texting control you!
