Answer: Nonmedical ways of managing GERD are: avoid or cut back on mint, chocolate, citrus, caffeine, alcohol, tomatoes, onions; do not wear anything clothing that is very tight at the waist, do not eat for at least an hour before bedtime, elevate the head of your bed with blocks, have small meals frequently, lose weight if you need to. The pain that you describe is not commonly associated with GERD
