Psychotherapy : You could try meeting with a professional to treat your anxiety which then would address the drinking and depression. There are lots of ways to decrease your anxiety such as meditation, deep breathing, self reassurance statements, looking at the thoughts feeding into the anxiety. Good luck!

Alcohol appears to: improve mood initially but is a depressant. It seems to help sleep but causes more awakenings and decreases deep sleep necessary for rest, energy restoration, tissue repair, and brain growth that can help overcome depression/anxiety. Alcohol increases risky behavior, poor judgment, and accidents. Stop alcohol. Seek a mental health professional to assist with anxiety and depression. Best regards.

Anxiety is treatable: There is help for those with even severe anxiety and depression-and it is much safer than alcohol!.Ask your Dr for recommendations and a referral to a professional counselor or therapist. Sometimes I will treat anxiety with a combination of anti-anxiety medication and counseling, and sometimes just counseling alone.Everyone is different, so not everyone has the same treatment plan. Call your Dr!
